If you’ve been keeping up, you may know that we have found our bus, affectionately named Nell! She’s literally perfect for what we hope to do – and she’s gonna make an amazing mobile market one day in the near future! We hope that it brings a smile to your face to know that it was your support that helped us finally find her. Because of you, she’s parked in front of our office.  She’s a beautiful 1988 Ford B700 and we couldn’t be happier! Nell is officially the star of the show.

As a matter of fact, our girl was recently featured on the cover of the James Island Messenger – click the link to check out the article and more photos!

Let the Transformation Begin…

As you can imagine, getting the bus into her future form – a traveling, two-aisle grocery on wheels – is going to be a major labor of love. We’re dedicated to doing the work ourselves wherever possible – We are sanding, painting, customizing and retrofitting for the big facelift. We are also taking on the mechanics and all other needs with the assistance of consulting partners and friends so that we know every bit of our social biz inside and out. So, for those of you with burning questions about when you might expect to see us on the road, rest assured: We’re making progress everyday!

If you, your friends, or your volunteer group want to get in on the action & spend a day working on Nell, hit us up!

Kickstarter Rewards – Design & Production Underway!

We’re busy pulling together all the fabulous rewards that we’ll be sending out to our Kickstarter Backers. Thanks for everyone’s patience with these – it’s taking some time to make sure they’re perfect by the time they arrive at your door. We can’t wait to get these out to you so we can officially say THANK YOU for your support. If you have any questions about your reward or if your address has changed, don’t hesitate to let us know!

We’re also ordering extras for many of the rewards – we’ll have an online store coming soon where you can grab additional LSG swag. If you can’t wait, contact us and we’ll make sure we hook you up with what you want!

From the Farm…

Mike Long, Farm Manager

Our market garden is booming thanks in large part to companion-planting techniques and the blood, sweat, and tears of the newest member of the LSG team, Mike Long. Mike adapted quickly and has successfully shouldered much of the difficult task of growing an abundance of food in South Carolina’s unforgiving summer. Heirloom tomatoes, basil, cucumbers, melons, peppers, okra, squash, beans and more will be growing through September! A huge shout out and thanks goes out to Mike for all his hard work!

LSG Awarded SOURCE Social Impact Prize

Last month, Kate pitched the LSG model at the 2015 SOURCE Health Forum and took home the Social Impact Prize – reserved for the participating start-up with the greatest potential to make a positive social impact in the community served.

The SOURCE Forum is a pitchfest collaboration between Village Capital, The Hitachi Foundation, and Investors’ Circle. Although we were heartbroken to be away from Charleston during the tragedy our community suffered last month, we were especially honored to bring this particular prize home – A portion of the reward was dedicated to the Mother Emanuel Hope Fund.
