A big part of starting a social business is the constant search for strategic partnerships within the community you aim to serve. It takes a village, as they say. Here at LSG, we consider ourselves lucky to have acquired many collaborators and partners who share similar visions for Charleston in terms of health and wellness, sustainability, and local food access.
Just in the past month, two initiatives right here in the City of Charleston have come under our radar, with great potential for collaboration. And we have to say, we’re pretty stoked. Its these kinds of partnerships that will make carrying out our mission possible, and will allow us to achieve a truly collective impact.
Charleston Healthy Business Challenge
Earlier this month, Mayor Riley held a press conference announcing the Charleston Healthy Business Challenge. Teaming with the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC), the initiative is designed to challenge companies to join a year-long contest aimed at improving the health and well-being of employees while reducing the cost of preventable illness and creating a culture of wellness in the workplace. Way. To. Go. Check it out here.
Lighten Up Charleston
The goal of Lighten Up Charleston is for good ol’ Chucktown to become the healthiest city in the Southeast – WOW. Needless to say, we couldn’t be more excited by this kind of goal. Lighten Up will utilize members of the City of Charleston, local hospitals, schools and colleges, health agencies, businesses, and community leaders to bring together local resources to help make healthier lifestyles a reality for Charleston residents.
LSG will be working with Lighten Up and its initiative to encourage neighborhood associations to implement Neighborhood Wellness Task Forces – designed to improve healthy food access right where people live. You can learn more about Lighten Up at their website.
Clearly this is an exciting time to be involved in health & wellness advocacy in Charleston. We couldn’t be more thrilled about the continued showing of support and interest from the City. Momentum is truly building for the creation of healthier communities and we’re so happy to be on board!
